10% of global population is disable of some nature and degree. India as a developing nation with diversities may have even more, although NSSO figures do not confirm with the figures of incidence prevalence of disability.

We do not have an exact estimation of the magnitude of the marginalized target group for planning but PWD Act 1995 provide equal rights and opportunities to the PWD. However, considering the level and extent of awareness arousal, attitudinal changes and the access to information, We surely have long way to cradication, prevention of impairment leading to disability and further worsening to handicapping conditions.

This huge population with the timely and appropriate medico surgical and therapeutic intervention considerable human resource will add to the national wealth.

Second suffered group will gain through diagnosis, therapy flitted with suitable aids and appliances as  compensatory mechanism to bring them back to mainstream of contributory life. Thus such medically oriented rehab center compiled with corrective and and rehabilitative approach will change the lives of the group with impairment restricting or minimizing the disabling conditions.

The Third and perhaps the last largest victim i.e the irreversible group may avail diagnostic facilities, therapeutic, counseling and referral services to other GOs and NGOs working towards "total care" of fitment and maintenance service, resource centres, special school, integrated education, vocational education, self employability, sports and cultural life which have to be disability specific beyond the domain of medico surgical intervention. The Medical  Rehabilitation Center can conduct collaborative action research in the composite rehabilitation of all types of impairment under the same roof.

To do justice of the cause, such Medical Rehabilitation Center must compare with modern western facilities in terms of creating infrastructure, procure modern equipments and machinery, recruit qualified skilled and experienced professionals with dedication and updated knowledge. Continued manpower development, Compilation, decomention and dissemination of information built in componention the least compromised service delivery system. Development of the modules and reaching the same to the un-reached as there exist a big gap between urban vs. rural and difficult to reach have not which needs to be bridged  by such rehab centers in days to come OPD and indoor services have to be accessed by the yet to be accessed target groups.

Govt. of India, RCI, National Institute, DRCs, CRCs, and NGOs, have initiated excellent services but we know that much to be achieved yet we have miles to go. Therefore, any such attempt is most welcome and wish all success in the endeavor of Medical Rehabilitation Center.
