OBESITY & METABOLIC DISORDER CLINIC, a center for medical treatment of Obesity & various Metabolic disease has been inaugurated on 2^nd May, 2004 at DB-16, Saltlake city, Kolkata-91.It is the brain-child of Dr. M. M. Ghatak, a young Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Consultant & Director of this center.

Background & Objective :

Obesity is one of the most important health problems in the world today. It is an important factor in developing risk factors in developing Diabetes, Hypertensions, Cardiovascular diseases, hyperlipidemia (high cholestrol & triglyceride), hypothroidism, Arthritis, osteoarthritis(degeneration of cartilage and bone of joints), Gall Bladder, Sleep aphea and other breathing problems, various forms of Cancer(uterine, breast colorectal, Kidney and gall bladder), complications of pregnancy, menstrual irregularities, hirsutism (presence of excess body and facial hair), stress incontinence (urine leakage caused by weak pelvic-floor muscles) psychological disorders such as depression etc.

Medically, these persons are not always suitable for any kind of excercise and drastic weight reducing unscientific procedures as commonly practiced in the city aiming only at beauty and figure enhancement may prove to be harmful in the long run.
