Mission
In
our country, huge
number of
Paralytic, Arthritic &
disabled patients
sink into
frustration after
listening “ Nothing
can be done anymore ” from Medical
& Surgical
Specialists. While Medical Science
has reached significantly towards cure and effectively it’s strong wing
called “ Medical Rehabilitation ”, India
can’t serve
that science
to the mass
because of
lack of conciousness & good projects. Dr. M. M.
Ghatak, the young Physiatrist
cum Medical
Rehabilitationist by
intense efforts &
struggle has created & founded Medical
Rehabilitation Center
in Kolkata & propagated
the idea of
this science. People of
Eastern India
has started
getting hope
of having treatment of such paralytic
& bed
confining disabilities.
There is a long
history of struggle (reflected in the page “ The Background
Struggle”), with
the mission
to help
return to
normal healthy
life of
such patients. Fight Back
Concept
A
healthy person
when gets
disabled out
of say,
brain or
spinal injury, stroke
or rheumatological
problems, the signs
which treats
the patient
and teach
them to
fight back and
return to the mainstream
of the society
overcoming the
difficulties and problems is called rehabilitation. History – a real struggle
The journey of MRC
started off as ISPAR – Institute of Stroke, Paralysis and Arthritis
Rehabilitation in March, 2000 by Dr. Ghatak. It has simply been a home
rehabilitation unit from a hundred sq. ft room in Karbala Tank Lane near
Manicktala, Kolkata, which increasingly became popular by the day. In early 2001, a full-fledged
multidisciplinary home rehabilitation started with a good team of doctors and qualified therapists covering good patient population in
Kolkata. It gradually became evident that not only the outsiders (who do
not reside in Kolkata) but the
people of Kolkata also could not be treated because of the lack of the
proper scientific service at
home (e.g., gymnasium
activities, different
instrumental programs,
round the
clock multidisciplinary intervention
etc.). Hence, as a logical next step,
the indoor rehabilitation programme was planned and nourished. Then after months of voluminous struggle, Dr. Ghatak finally fulfilled his dream. On 30th October, 2001, a full fledged indoor rehabilitation centre with 16 beds was inaugurated by Hon’ble Health Minister, Dr. S. K. Mishra and Dr. (Prof.) N. N. Sarangi in Park Circus. Gradually a full fledged hospital (TRA General Hospital) – the same premises has been acquired by Dr. Ghatak and his team and a 50 bedded Neuro–orthopaedic rehabilitation set-up has been activated since 1st March, 2003. The people of West Bengal who were only concerned with some post illness physiotherapy now have been driven by and motivated towards the complete Rehabilitation treatment. A good number of
free check–up camps, awareness programs and scientific
seminars have been taken by the same team in different places of West
Bengal and the people of Eastern
India are
really charmed
with such
dedicated service
towards the
suffering humanity offered by Dr. Ghatak and his team. Conditions we treat

rehabilitation team consisting of qualified doctors, physiotherapists,
occupational therapists, speech therapist, psychotherapist, orthotist,

present Medical Rehabilitation Center at TRA General Hospital and National
Pain and Arthritis Clinic, Salt Lake.
The team work – Integration – Every
patient is assessed, pain special attention and discussed among the
personnel of this team and eventually treated with this very systematic
and modern rehabilitation techniques. Grand
discussion – There is a grand discussion held once every week. In this
session, 7-8 personalities of various streams discuss the cases of
day-care and indoor patients lead and guided by the Medical
Rehabilitationist (mostly Dr. M. M. Ghatak) and formulate a joint strategy
for treatment. This results in a multi–disciplinary coverage of the treatment
and produces faster improvement in the overall patient condition. Comments of the patients Some
